If your advised that it’s O.K to rotavate your old lawn ( turn over ) and then install new turf on top or cover your existing lawn with top soil and then lay the new turf. This is seriously bad practice and you will feel very disappointed with the result. Avoid this advice at all cost.
The correct way
We will always remove the old lawn with a lawn cutter and take it just below the root level.
Here's the correct process
STEP 1
We use a turf cutter to remove the old lawn and weeds, which is height adjustable and set just below root level and as licenced waste carriers we can dispose of the waste which is inclusive of price.
STEP 2
Once the area has been cleared we’re ready to rotavate. Breaking up the soil to a depth of 6″ (150mm) Leaving a fine crumb like texture.
STEP 3
Rake so its roughly level and remove large stones and debris.
STEP 4
Firm the ground to remove air pockets. This is very important and stops the lawn from sinking.
STEP 5
Rake the area to be laid again so it’s perfectly level.
STEP 6
Now lay the turf in a staggered formation and use boards to spread your body weight as you cover the area.
STEP 7
Time to clear up the site. Usually there is minimal mess.
STEP 8
We will then leave our client a written copy of aftercare that is specific to the turf chosen and time of year it was laid, so that it looks amazing for years to come.
